The US general manager of TikTok has said the Chinese-owned video-sharing app is "here for the long run", after President Donald Trump said he would ban it in the US.

Vanessa Pappas told TikTok users in a video statement that its staff were building "the safest app".

The Australian state of Victoria has declared a state of disaster and imposed new lockdown measures after a surge in coronavirus infections.

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews said the restrictions would come into effect on Sunday at 18:00 (09:00 BST).

Under the new rules, residents of the state capital Melbourne will be subject to a night-time curfew.

Facebook has complied with an order by Brazil's Supreme Court to block the accounts of a dozen top allies of far-right President Jair Bolsonaro.

The group are accused of spreading fake news against judges.

However, the social media giant said the measure was a threat to freedom of speech, and said it would appeal against the order.

Its platform has been used to call for a military coup to shut down Congress and the Supreme Court.

In May a judge ordered Facebook to block 12 accounts and Twitter another 16.

Florida is preparing for Tropical Storm Isaias which is expected to hit the US state later on Sunday.

Isaias, the ninth named storm of 2020, was downgraded from a hurricane to a tropical storm after battering the Turks & Caicos Islands and the Bahamas.

"Don't be fooled by the downgrade," Governor Ron DeSantis warned residents. State authorities have opened shelters and closed beaches and parks.

Florida is one of the US states worst hit by the coronavirus pandemic.
