Location: Hawkshead (nr Potters Bar, Herts)

Interview Date: 27/08/2020

This is a fixed term contract until 30 September 2021.

We are searching for a highly motivated, independent, multidisciplinary researcher who will work in the Structure & Motion Lab.

You will, in coordination with external collaborators, one other postdoc, two technicians, a research assistant and an administrative assistant as well as the project’s Principal Investigator, conduct computational simulation‐based research investigating the evolution of locomotion in terrestrial vertebrates (specifically, archosaurs; the lineage including crocodiles, birds, Mesozoic dinosaurs and other groups).

The work will heavily involve 3D biomechanical simulation using optimal control theory (trajectory optimisation) and compatible skills in this area are essential.

This “DAWNDINOS” project is funded by the ERC (EU Horizon 2020) and is led by the PI, Prof. John R. Hutchinson, along with other collaborators.

You will lead in all stages of the research. This includes collection and analysis of simulation data and implementing Good Research Practice and Health and Safety practices.

Skills in computer programming that involve optimal control / dynamical systems theory directly transferable to the research project are essential to the project and must be evidenced by peer‐reviewed journal publication(s) demonstrating these skills.

We are looking for candidates with a PhD or a visiting scholar qualification and with research experience extremely relevant to computer simulation of dynamic systems (e.g. engineering; computer science; physics; computational neuroscience) or a closely related field, who also have experience of conducting world class research.

Given the Coronavirus pandemic situation and potential lockdown(s), remote working arrangements would be considered or even necessary. The research is entirely digital so it is amenable to this.

We offer a generous reward package.

The RVC values diversity and is committed to the equality of opportunity. Balancing both the needs of the business with those of our staff, we will consider applications to work on a flexible basis where possible.
