in Molecular Mechanisms of Metabolic Diseases

Two postdoctoral positions or a visiting scholar are available in the laboratory of Dr. ZhaoZhang, in the Center for the Genetics of Host Defense at UT SouthwesternMedical Center to study molecular mechanisms of metabolic diseases.

Newly established in 2020, the Zhang laboratory employs a unique mouseforward genetic screening approach to identify new regulators of majormetabolic diseases, including obesity, diabetes, and nonalcoholic fatty liverdisease (NAFLD).

We use various approaches, including biochemistry, cell biology,molecular biology, proteomics, and mouse models to study the molecularmechanisms.

Our laboratory has several exciting projects related to:

1) The dynamicregulation of a newly identified E3 ubiquitin ligase in insulin signaling.

2)The role of several new genes in the regulation of obesity.

3) The mechanism ofan unnamed gene in the pathogenesisof NAFLD.

Theresearch in our laboratory is funded by start-up funding and NIH Pathway toIndependence Award (K99/R00). For more details, please visit

Candidates must hold a doctoral degree (Ph.D. and/or M.D.) or are scheduledto receive a doctoral degree very soon, or a visiting scholar and should be highly motivated.

Experience in cell signaling, mouse genetics, fatty liver, obesity, anddiabetes research leading to publication in peer-reviewed journals isrecommended.
