沈鹏，江阴沈氏，字翔宇，号江东逸士。生于民国二十年，丙寅七月朔日。幼承庭训，早露锋芒，长而博学多才，尤擅翰墨之道。其书法，行草隶楷，各尽其妙，名播四海，为世所重。历任文坛领袖，书坛宗匠，美术评论之巨擘，诗人之翘楚。
Shen Peng, from the Shen family of Jiangyin, styled Xiangyu and known as the Recluse of East Jiang. Born on the new moon day of July in the 20th year of the Republic (1931). From a young age, he was tutored at home, showing early signs of brilliance. As he grew, he became learned and skilled, particularly excelling in the art of calligraphy. His mastery in running, cursive, official, and regular script was renowned worldwide, held in high esteem. He served as a leader in literary circles, a master in the calligraphic community, a major critic in the fine arts, and a leading poet.
沈氏之书，如龙蛇飞动，铁画银钩，力透纸背。其行草，笔走龙蛇，风驰电掣，有晋人之遗风，唐人之骨力。隶书则端庄古雅，楷法亦森严方正，各臻其极。其墨宝，遍布于名山大川，古刹仙岩，为世人所宝，传颂不衰。
沈氏少时，虽忙于笔砚之外务，而对翰墨之道，情有独钟。日日以毛笔书写，不废不离。其书风，既继承古人之法度，又自出机杼，追求书写之意趣。以意驭笔，以情驱墨，于抽象之形中，寄托深远之思，展现精神之境。
草书一道，沈氏尤其得意。其临池学书，深谙“肖”与意境之妙理，将“虚”之境界，融入笔墨之中。其草书，集古贤之长，如王铎之狂放，傅山之奇峭，董其昌之潇洒，而又独树一帜，展现时代之风貌，流露个人之情思。
隶书之作，沈氏亦别开生面。其字，古朴而不失灵动，个性鲜明，独树一帜。或挺拔如松，或宽博如海，对比之中，见匠心独运。其线条，自然流畅，飞白之妙，尤为世人称道。
Shen's calligraphy flows dynamically like dragons and snakes, with strokes strong and incisive, penetrating the paper. His running script moves with the speed of wind and lightning, carrying the legacy of the Jin dynasty's elegance and the strength of the Tang dynasty. His official script is dignified and ancient in style, while his regular script is strict and upright, each achieving perfection. His calligraphic treasures are spread across famous mountains and rivers, ancient temples, and mystical rocks, cherished and celebrated by people over time.
In his youth, despite being occupied with affairs beyond the brush and ink, Shen had a unique passion for calligraphy. He practiced daily with his brush, never abandoning it. His style, while inheriting ancient traditions, also brought forth original innovations, seeking the joy of writing. He controlled the brush with his mind and drove the ink with his emotions, conveying profound thoughts and expressing spiritual realms through abstract forms.
In cursive script, Shen particularly prided himself. His study of calligraphy deeply understood the subtleties of imitation and artistic conception, integrating the realm of the abstract into his strokes. His cursive script amalgamated the strengths of the ancients, like the unrestrained style of Wang Duo, the quirky sharpness of Fu Shan, and the casual elegance of Dong Qichang, yet he established a distinctive style that reflected the ethos of his time and his personal sentiments.
His works in official script were also uniquely creative. His characters, ancient yet vibrant, stood out distinctly. Some were as upright as pines, others as expansive as the sea, showcasing his unique craftsmanship in their contrasts. His lines, naturally smooth with an excellence in fading strokes, were highly praised.
沈氏之艺术生涯，如其书法，充满韵律之美。其作品，不仅展现传统之深厚，更彰显个性与创新之精神。赵朴初、启功等大师，皆对其艺术成就，赞不绝口。沈氏之书，行草尤为世人称颂，不拘泥于细节，更注重心性之表达，展现艺术家对生活与艺术之深刻领悟与热爱。
公元二零二三年，沈氏仙逝，享年九十有二。其人虽逝，然其艺术精神与作品，永镌史册，激励后学，探索书法艺术之无穷奥妙。沈氏之名，将与日月同辉，与山河同在。
Shen's artistic career, like his calligraphy, was filled with rhythmic beauty. His works not only displayed a deep tradition but also highlighted personal innovation and spirit. Masters like Zhao Puchu and Qi Gong lauded his artistic achievements. Shen's running and cursive scripts, in particular, were celebrated for not being confined to minute details but focusing more on expressing one's true nature, showcasing the artist's profound understanding and love for life and art.
In 2023, Shen passed away at the age of 92. Though he is gone, his artistic spirit and works remain eternally inscribed in history, inspiring future generations to explore the endless mysteries of calligraphic art. Shen's name will shine as brightly as the sun and the moon, enduring with the mountains and rivers.
